Masongsong Associates Engineering Limited (MAEL) and Municipal Project
Management (MPM) have been retained by 2585231 Ontario Inc. to conduct
a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for the extension of
Anderson Avenue between Castlemore Avenue and Street ‘B’ as per the
figure below. This project is being planned under Schedule ‘C’ of the Municipal
Engineers Association (MEA) Municipal Class EA document Municipal Class
Environmental Assessment.
A Problem/Opportunity statement for this study was determined based on the
Official Plan Policies, as well as the MTPS which emphasize the need for
Anderson Avenue Extension as a North/South collector road. Should the
Anderson Avenue Extension proceed, a parallel route to Markham Road will
connect Castlemore Avenue to the south with Major Mackenzie to the north.
The purpose of the study is to determine specific road parameters for the road
extension to accommodate future traffic, pedestrians, and cyclists’ requirements
with the development of the sites along the Markham Road Corridor, within the
Mt. Joy Secondary Plan. Other major considerations in this study include guidance
for servicing recommendations including stormwater management.
“To support existing uses and future developments in the study area bounded by Major
Mackenzie Drive, Bur Oak Drive, Markham Road, and the GO rail corridor, additional
north-south capacity is required for all modes of transportation. The infrastructure
will be supportive of the transportation and servicing objectives in the current Markham Transportation Secondary Plan (MTSP) and the Mount Joy Secondary Plan.”
